Thanks, Dan. I think it's no coincidence that within a day of a relative
posting a long file of favorite budget recipes on "yousendit," my in-box
was deluged with spam. (So were the recipes, according to a fellow victim
who downloaded them and pronounced them "commendably accurate -- if
somewhat redundant -- copies of the directions on the Noodle Roni
packages.") Fortunately, that address was a disposable one that I created
specifically to web-surf and to shortstop certain Internet-besotted
relatives who failed to honor my request that they quit polluting my in-box
with their chain letters full of joke files, virus warnings and other junk
they considered essential, including sign-ups for "free" bullshizzle, oops,
I mean information bulletins, that they just knew I'd be dying to read.
Norton and EarthLink were trapping about 120 known spams per day on that
screen name before the day my helpful relative gave that address to
"yousendit." That day, the spam significantly increased, and within days,
it doubled. When it didn't slack off after two weeks, that was my cue to
dump that address. I've now given the offenders a different disposable
address, which they're happily trashing. I don't give my preferred address
to the usual suspects and have also blocked them from it as a precaution,
without offending them by telling them they're blocked, of course.
Meanwhile, I've threatened my other relatives that if they give out my
preferred address to the Gruesome Twosome, I'll let fly with the Ancient
Head to Toe Curse (scalp lice, crotch rot and toenail fungus), although I'm
sure there must be two or six bloggers out there with the guaranteed cure.
Boogety-boogety!
