Subj: [kl] Why can't bass clarinets be built better in tune?
Date: Tue, 8 Mar 2005 15:35:52 -0500

I have been working all day on a Buffet 1193 low C bass to cure some BAD
intonation problems. The biggest problem is a sharp throat A, by 10 cents, a
flat throat Bb, by at least 5 to 10 cents, and the B immediately above it 25
cents sharp. That makes a very bad chromatic scale!

It seems anything I do to fix the A makes the Bb worse. The low E, a 12th
below the B, is already a bit low, so altering the B will just make that
worse. ARGH!!!!!!!

Frustrated!
