I knew the players and I asked them both about the reasons why
their case was denied. Both players chose not to speak about the
matter. That caused me to come to conclusions about their
receiving some sort of settlement, but both denied it. It is a
mystery to me to this day why they did not sue and win.

Dan, this is interesting from a professional perspective (my day
job
profession, that is). Do you know why the players who sued lost
their
cases? I imagine that they would win a negligence action here in
Australia in the circumstances you describe.
