The thing that is nice about this is you can use a very high quality
microphone and get a really good sound out of the instrument. I've used =
the
Sennheiser MK-2 capsule on Sennheiser or Shure diversity wireless =
systems.
This isn't a cheap setup (probably costs close to $800-$1000 per =
channel),
but you get good sound. The other thing that is good about it is being =
on
the back of the instrument, you minimize production sound. Most of the
noise we create as players radiates out from the instrument as it is =
high
frequency (instrument "grunge", key clicks, etc..) By placing the mic =
in a
location where you won't be hearing these sounds, you get an amplified =
sound
that ends up being much closer to what you'd expect to hear in the =
audience
if you were listening acoustically.
