....and there are numerous examples of like-minded artists having
gathered at a certain location because they shared a point of view.
Jazz clubs in St. Louis and New Orleans, art colonies in Monterey,
Hollywood, and so forth.

What's not always obvious is exactly what aspect of their 'point of
view' they shared (or disagreed about and felt the need to 'be there' in
order to voice their own view), or whether the shared aspect is even
definable in words.

You've made a good point that geography may be only a convenient name,
not the core of the issue.
