I was at the convention and heard about 1/3 of the Mozart before having
to leave. Since I was in the back row, I saw new and shiny
basset's...not brands. My guess is they were large bore basset horns
based on the relativly free sound of them. Carnegie hall also smoothed
out tone quality so the expected fuzziness of the BH was not as obvious.
The overall UM wind ensemble played quite well

Mentioned a couple days ago, the Royal Fireworks Music played by U T
Austin, was edited by the conductor, Jerry Junkins; though I do not know
the original edition.

The level of wind playing was extremely high from all the top bands.
Usually the conductors pack the wind ensembles for these conferences
with the best graduate students, but still...it was great. Some of the
music sounded more challenging than anything I have played in 30 years
of orchestral playing.
