I just noticed (after typing in haste and hitting "send" without
proofreading) that I wrote something too illiterate to make sense. Sorry!
Here's what I meant:
Adam Michlin wrote,
>Gene Quill (of Phil and Quill fame) was once
>accosted at a bar he was playing and accused
>of merely stealing from Charlie Parker. His
>response was "Here, you try it." (I seem to
>recall being told his actual response was more
>vulgar than that, but I can't be sure).
There's a similar legend about Jascha Heifetz. While Heifetz was putting
away his violin after a concert, a fan walked into the green room and said
to him, "Your violin has such a lovely tone!"
Heifetz held up the violin, looked at it for a moment and said, "Really? I
don't hear anything...."
