It really depends upon the combination, and how willing you are to
arrange your own music (depending upon how much time you have, as well!)

You could get together with a flute, and an oboe, or you could go the
route of three clarinets, or a clarinet and two flutes, or you could do
two clarinets and a bass clarinet. The thing is, whatever you do, you
more than likely are going to have to arrange the music you play, unless
you can get together a woodwind quintet, which can be problematic for
most folks.

I'd suggest that, if you decide to get a group together of any of
various combinations, you could arrange some tunes out of a fake book of
traditional jazz tunes, and play them very light. You'd also be
surprised at how NOISY a lot of these receptions can be. I've played a
lot of receptions (that was a large component of my job when I was a
clarinettist in the Navy), and most of the time, the people were so busy
talking to each other, they ignored the music anyway, once they noticed
it for the first time.
