Your conception of a divide is divisive and stupid.

Right now I'm listening to a CD of Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1
performed by Emanuel Ax and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment,
on period instruments, and obviously with a great deal of painstaking
research into performance practises of the time.

There's nothing about this recording that is a museum piece; it's
exciting, living music, as is every other period instrument performance
I have on disc.

What you clearly don't understand is that those who seek to understand
and preserve what the composer wrote and why are doing it *because this
knowledge helps in allowing the music to live*, as attested to by the
remarkable performances of many of these artists. The fact that you
don't appreciate this speaks volumes, in my opinion.
