Blake,
Yes, the lessons were very structured. The first thing we would do is a
chromatic long tone exercise, then to Klose,Gay,Rose and other methods, then
he would work on an orchestral excerpt or a piece. He was a great teacher.
I spoke to him a few years ago. I haven't studied within him since 1975 or
76. I teach the same way.
