I've been offered a Buescher Super 400 tenor sax, and would be grateful if
any of the sax players on the list could comment on the suitability of this
model for a total novice on sax with about a year's experience of playing
clarinet.

At some stage the original thumb hook has been replaced by a Selmer one on
a plate which partially obscures the serial number, which seems to begin
with '38'. The bell is quite plain, with none of the ornate engraving which
I gather is found on some Bueschers. At some stage the bow has had a knock
which seems to have been quite well drawn out. The silver on the key cups
is a bit tarnished, and the plating on the little finger keys is a bit
worn; otherwise it's in fair condition cosmetically.

The seller is going to replace a couple of leaky pads and otherwise put it
into good playing condition, and I understand that he can be trusted to do
this well. He wants 700 pounds sterling for it (about $1275). Does that
sound reasonable?
