Tonight I heard the best interpretation of the Adagio of Mozart's clarinet
concerto I ever heard, I think. This man can play the clarinet, he really
can. He proved so also in his performance of a theme from Mahler's first
symfony.

But most of the time he was doing a trick. He is a virtuoso, and wants to
show it. His ppp is unexcelled, and he shows it. He played Schubert's "Ave
Maria" so low my wife -- with a very normal hearing -- didn't hear he was
playing, and I only did so thanks to the maximum amplification of my hearing
aids.

But nonetheless: it was a pleasant evening. We were in a concerto with Giora
Feidman.
