Subj: [kl] A bassethorn riddle
Date: Fri, 4 Feb 2005 18:16:54 -0500

OK, here's a riddle for you.

Tomorrow, I'm playing on period instruments in a performance of a major
choral piece -- actually, I'm playing in a performance on period
instruments of what is arguably *the* superlative religious work of the
musical canon.

There are parts for bassethorns. Yet, we're playing them on Bb clarinets
with completely clear consciences.

How can this be?

To put a finer point on it, how dare I confess to it on this list, of all
places?-)
