Every time this topic comes up, I find it surprising that I seem to be
the only one who remembers the time-honored method of using nylon
material from women's stockings to tighten a ring. Remove the ring,
stretch the nylon material over the end of the joint, replace the ring,
and cut away any excess material. If there are remaining threads of the
material, use a match or cigarette lighter to burn them away. The heat
melts the nylon, and it can then be scraped off.

Oh, yes, there is one more thing - if you are male, you have to figure
out how to explain to your colleagues and your students why you are
keeping panty hose in your studio! Or, maybe if your wife finds
pantyhose in the glove compartment of your car, you can explain to her
that you have to tighten the rings on your clarinet. ;-)
