Daniel,
The rings are shrink just enough to barely fit over the ring grove on
the tenon and then hammered in place with a rawhide mallet. As far as too
much humidity. The tight rings will keep the tenon from over expanding in
the recieving area of the socket.
Here's a question, if paper & glue was such a great fix or the proper
way to tighten rings why doesn't the manufacturers use this procedure and
then sell ring tightening paper or glue to make more profit? Something to
think about. I've also lived in an extremely humid place, Brighton Beach,
Brooklyn, N.Y. I was about 100 feet from the ocean. I now live on the west
coast of florida, which is extremely humid. I have never had a problem. In
N.Y. where in the winter you have dry heat to heat up you home, this would
cause rings to fall off. Once the ring is tightened properly , that will do
it.
