Jim doesn't tell us where he lives, but last summer I spent several weeks
in a California town with temperatures in the 90s and relative humidity
around 5%. All the rings on my instruments began to get loose, so I put
both instruments in a garbage bag with a dish of water and a wash rag
soaking in the water (mainly to keep it from sloshing about when I removed
one or both instruments) and just stored them there, sealed with a
twisty. The house was air conditioned, so the temperature inside was no
problem, but the humidity was probably even lower than outside. It took
about a week for the rings to tighten up again. I know there are
humidifiers one puts in a case, but I've never had much luck with
them. I'm very happy with this other method.
