My experience has been that, any time I go to flute from either
instrument, I really have to THINK FLUTE, and prepare my lips, and
breathing apparatus for the change. Alto is more preparing the breath
for me, though I also have to back off and not push the air so hard in
the lower register, or else I end up getting squawks and honks, and
attracting geese from hundreds of miles away. Going to clarinet from
flute is fairly easy - I find that my breath is actually STRONGER,
because I'm having to think more about breathing to get a better sound
on flute. To clarinet from sax, I find I simply prefer clarinet to sax,
anyway, so that's a personal preference. I have never liked the neck
strap, and never will. It's very uncomfortable.

All this said, it's basically thinking whatever instrument I have at
hand, and making sure my head stays with whatever my body's playing :)
