Subj: [kl] Embouchure adjustments

Several years ago I was giving private music lessons to jr. high students on
clarinet, sax and flute. My flute "expertise" came only from a tech class
back in the 60's at Indiana State, so I bought a used model and plunged in.
There were too frequent times when while fingerings were easy, I simply
couldn't produce a tone, while trying to demonstrate to a beginner the
procedure. I did find that after I'd been playing on my clarinet it was
much easier to switch to flute when I changed students, and a little
more difficult if I'd been playing the alto sax first. I'm curious if
anyone else has had a similar experience - it just seems as if the tighter
clarinet embouchure primed my lips to adopt to the flute much easier when
attempted shortly after the clarinet playing.
