If I may say so, this is an unhelpful way of putting it, because in
conjunction with some of the rest of your post, it could be taken to suggest
that there is an 'end result' -- and, moreover, it could be taken to suggest
that there is an end result you could *tell* someone.

Speaking for myself, I would rephrase it as:

I know ----I have been doing it, THROUGHOUT EVERY WORKING DAY, for 50
years!!!!!

In fact, I (quite seldom) vary the mouthpiece, I (quite infrequently) vary
the ligature, and I (regularly) vary the reed.

OTOH, I (constantly) vary my address.

And BTW, the 50 years is my *playing* life.
