It's actually quite an event to attend. My first one was an eye-opener, as
it was also my first trip to California as well. I made loads of friends,
and you get to see so many new instruments and accessories. AND you can meet
folks like Tom Ridenour and talk to them in person about their products. My
first trip was the first year the folks who make BG Ligatures were there. I
was running to participate in the opening-morning "marching band" (another
event in itself) and realized I brought my mouthpiece and reeds, but my
ligature was in my luggage still stuck in Chicago. I stopped at the BG booth
while they were opening up, and asked about buying a ligature...and the
gentlemen smiled, handed me two different models, and said "let me know what
you think."

I said "Let me pay you now," and he shook his head. "Just come back and play
for me after you are through, and they are yours to keep." I ended up
ordering a couple dozen for our store when I returned.
