At those prices you probably did well (maybe even better with the first
one), even if you figure repairs into the final cost. It is likely that
they will both need considerable professional attention. A full repad for
a clarinet runs from $100 and up. Just recorking joints is $6 to $10 each
joint. "Playing condition" repairs are typically from $20 and up,
depending upon how much needs to be done.

The superiority of wood over plastic is somewhat exaggerated by the fact
that the better MADE instruments are generally made of wood, and the better
PLAYERS typically play wooden instruments.
