You bet; but the reed needs to come off at the end of a session. A
proper whipping doesn't come off.

My flute has waxed thread in place of cork. I hesitated when I was in
the store and saw it for the first time (the wrapped surface was not
quite as flat and uniform as cork is), but it seals.
