I know there must be a special way of tying the string, but since I don't
use string and never have, I can only speculate on how to tie it. There is
a way that I think would be acceptable. It is a lash knot (I think that is
what it is called). There is a picture of how it is tied at
http://www.woodwind.org/clarinet/Uploads/strnglig.html. It is a very easy
knot to tie, even though it doesn't especially look like it in the
pictures. I run a swimming pool as a day job and when I need to clamp
things together for repair and don't have clamps, I use this
"lashing". Quite effective. I hope that helps answer your question, since
there haven't been any other responses.
