Subj: [kl] Ligatures--Important?

Hi- I'm a high school clarinetist; currently, I'm
playing on a Buffet R13 but am still using the
ligature that came with my student horn. I've been
thinking of upgrading ligatures before all-state
auditions this year, but I'm not willing to shell out
$50-100 for something that makes only a minor
difference in my playing. Does anyone know whether
ligatures make a huge difference in sound, and if so,
which types are best?
