Hello Tom

My teacher yesterday gave birth to a son (thank you, I'll bring over your
congratulations). In stead from her now I have lessons from a retired
clarinettist, who is in the rich possession of a Wurlitzer Reform-Boehm
Clarinet. I seldom, if ever heard such a beautiful sound! Even c'''' and
d'''' sound beautifully dark (sorry, Dan), not shrill. He plays it with ther
original mp and marca reeds, of stiffness 3.

I would envy him, were I gould enough to be worth such an expensive
instrument. But as I am not I am content with my Buffet Crampon BC20 I
bought by mere chance 20 years ago in Paris.

And i also have good news! Some time ago I inquired on this list about
crystal mouth pieces for claribass, after my dealer had said they don't
exist. I received the same answer on this list.

But my friend Paolo de Gaspari, the claribass player in the Emiliano
Clarinet Quartett plays on a Pomarico mp. When he visited us three weeks ago
I asked him whether it was taylor made for him. He said "no", so I contacted
Pomarico.

And yesterday I received one, model "2", they described as being most like
the Nigun model I play on my soprano. And indeed it is beautiful. Suddenly I
can reach written c'''' (in treble clef), and not only I can reach it, it is
even in tune! Also making large leaps, I tried up to two octaves, up and
down, goes well, so I now finally can study the Uhl #14 (I believe). With
the original Leblanc mp (I didn't use that one anyhow), a Selmer C*, and
Vandoren B40, B44 and B45 this all was impossible!

Ciao

Rien
