Tuning, Tuning, Tuning!
I also purchased a used Bass Clarinet from a local music shop that had been
assembled from two different horns. Like yours the serial numbers didn't
match, but the keywork was the same on both sections. Played fine after I
got the instrument sealed up, but it was so far out of tune on the 12ths
that no one could play with any group.
I returned it and got another instrument of the same make(Leblanc) and it is
just fine. The key work on the second instrument is different from the
keywork on the first, probably because the horns are of a different series.
With a bass clarinet if there are leaks it is hard to play in the clarion
register.
