True.

Brymer wrote several books, and the only one that I own (thanks to
Michael Bryant!) does not cite the researchers' names.

However, a number of books and encyclopedias cite Doppelmeyer's book of
1730. Unless you disbelieve Doppelmeyer's statement that it was
Denner's invention, you must take into account that Denner died in 1707
and hence the first 'clarinet' must be pre-1707.

I haven't read many books on the history of clarinets, and therefore I
cannot make any other statements.
