I do 1) because it is easy whereas 2) is very difficult (I think a
gliss in the lower register is tricky and across the break almost
impossible. That's my twopennyworth. I've not researched the original
intentions, so I've no idea what is "right" but I've only ever heard 1)
on recordings, so ... what else can I say?
