Sarah, the Prokofiev has always been called by the wrong name
because the themes are not Hebrew as you well know. They were
supposedly written for Prokofiev (or suggested to him) by
Bellison, and the original title of the work is "Overture on
Yiddish Themes." Being a Yiddishist myself, I always played it
under that title.

Hello again,

There is a difference between Klezmer music and the Hebrew Music
that
was recorded by Klocker. Klezmer music, and also the Klezmer
style is a Folk style
and the Hebrew music at the Bellison collection is "classical"
music that was written by
Jewish -Russion composers at the begining of the 20th century .
I am not sure that a Klezmer style of playing is doing a good
service to this music.
It is much closer to musical works such as the "Overture on
Hebrew themes"
by Prokofiev then any folk music.
At the begining of the 20th century the term "Hebrew" was very
different from
"Jewish" and was connected to Zionism . The Zionist movement was
very secular
and tried to creat a new "Jewish" personality.
The use of the word "Hebrew" was already a revolution because the
Hebrew language
is the Holy language of the Bible and it wasn't spoken for 2000
year.
