Danielle,

I had my wisdom teeth removed this past July. My oral surgeon told me to
wait at least 1 week - so I did...and that was NOT long enough. I had the
added benefit of having some nerve damage so I was over anxious to get back
to the clarinet. The pressure from both the air in the mouth and the cheek
muscles pushing inward (consequently against the extraction region) can lead
to problems if you play too soon. I did play too soon and the only
consequence I had was some minor bleeding, which led to an extended healing
time for that particular socket. Fortunately, it did not lead to a dry
socket.

Good healing!!

Subject: [kl] All My Wisdom

Hi Group!

I recently, as of 8:45 this morning, had my wisdom teeth pulled from my
head.
And what a glorious thing this was, as I was very unconscious. I'm thinking
I've had a pretty good recovery, no swelling, or chipmunk cheeks. The back
of
my mouth is a little tender, but that's the extent of pain. So here's the
question: How soon is too soon to start fiddling around and practicing. I've
heard through the grapevine that I should rest and heal for about a week,
but
my surgeon/dentist did not really say much of anything. And, well, I've sat
on
my butt all day, and I feel like being productive. Is tomorrow too soon?

Your feedback is very much appreciated, as I feel I no longer have the
ability
to make decisions as I ponder at the bloody pieces of wisdom that were
yanked
from my jaw.

Thanks!
Danielle
