Clem Hutchinson, my clarinet and conducting prof, taught me about "performance glasses".
For instance if you read with 150's you would use 100's for playing and conducting, or possibly 100's for conducting and 125 for playing. If you read with 175's you might use 125 for conducting and 150 for playing ---etc.

I also found that when I was using 125 for conducting, that 100's were really nice for a little extra clarity when using a dance front and standing---a focal length of about 4 feet---playing at dances in a combo.

Subject: [kl] glasses

I've been wearing trifocals for some time now and I'm having a
pair of bifocal glasses made especially for playing. They will
be like upside down bifocals, with eh little half moon on the top
being a distance lens, and the rest of the glasses being a
reading lens. This way I can see the music because I'm looking
through the reading lens, but when I have to look at the
conductor, I look up and through the distance lens.

Who else has ideas about glasses for the unsightly?
