Dan:

For several years now, I have been using bifocals which have my distance prescription primarily and
my music (arm's length) prescription in the inset, which is set about halfway up in the lense, quite
a bit higher than normal reading bifocals. This allows me to see the entire page of music below the
line and the conductor and my colleagues above the line. As I've said to people who've asked, I
don't need to be able to see the conductor's movements - only the expression on his/her face.

With the exception of up-close reading, these bifocals serve me well as all-purpose glasses. For
example, I can read a newspaper on a table or a computer screen with the music prescription. I
recommend having a spare pair of music-only glasses just in case something happens to the bifocals.

Happy New Year and best wishes to all.

Steve Hartman
