I'm not sure who said it (Sir Thomas Beecham?) but it's still very true: "The
English don't know much about music, but they like the noise it makes". I
think that certainly applies to the audience for Classic FM.

Not that I'd begrudge anyone listening to what they enjoy, but it often seems
to be all sweet and no meat. "Smooth Classics at 7". Yuk.
