That is indeed terrible news about Emily who I knew when she was
a 20 year old at Stanford University.

And Joe or anyone else who knows, what was the dating of the
"current issued" of The Clarinet to which you were referring.
There is supposed to be one out in December but I have not seen
it. Was that the one to which you were referring?

The current issue of The Clarinet (the journal of the
International
Clarinet Association) has a feature article about Emily
Bernstein,
written by editor Jim Gillespie as part of the "Who was that
clarinetist" series about film musicians. Emily has had a long
and
illustrious career in film music, but learned during the
recording of
The Terminal that she was suffering from a serious and likely
terminal illness. The Terminal recording may well be her last
performance. By all means, buy the soundtrack CD--it's some of
the
best clarinet playing you will hear on record.
