Matthew asked about basset horns in this old band work. Dan Leeson answered
that Mendelssohn did use basset horns. This makes me curious what other
interesting instrumentation he used in this work. It dates from about 1825, right?
Dan, or anyone, can you list the original instrumentation? C clarinets?
Serpents? Fifes? What brass? Valved? This was before saxhorns, right?
