Matthew,
Sometimes it is possible to remove bad
smells from cases.....sometimes not.
I spray cases with Lysol (do you have that over
there????)....it's a strong disinfectant which
kills mold, mildew, viruses, bacteria, and is
supposed to eliminate odors. I assume it is
probably strong enough to kill insects also.
I spray them VERY well, and I mean saturate the
lining in both the top and bottom and close the
case for a couple of days. When I open it I leave
it outside in the fresh air for a day or so. Sometimes
this does the job; sometimes I have to repeat the
process. If the case is really bad it may be hopeless,
but this does work on about 75% of them.
The clarinet itself will probably need to be taken apart
and cleaned, new pads, etc.
