Subj: [kl] Question on tone...
Date: Wed, 15 Dec 2004 18:58:50 -0500

Hello,
I am a college oboist and have started taking an
interest in classical clarinet performance (I
generally have been playing jazz on clarinet.)

I have tons of clarinet recordings. None please me
nearly as much as the sweet tone of Sabine Meyer, and
just as much so Karl Leister.

My question is that with my setup being a Buffet
Festival (wood), an M13Lyre, V12 #4 reeds, Vandoren
Optimum Lig, and the stock barrel, is it rational to
think I can produce a sound like the artists mentioned
above? Or is there no way to get that mellow dark
german sound on a french clarinet.
I cannot really afford a German clarinet, but I could
afford new reeds and a mouthpiece. What might help me?

Granted I suppose the best help is practice and
listening- I would like to give myself a fighting
chance:)

Thanks,
Robert Ladwig
