NOTICE OF VACANCY

POSITION: Artist/Teacher of Clarinet and Music History.

RANK: Assistant Professor, tenure track, full-time, 9-month appointment
effective August 16, 2005.

DUTIES: Teach, recruit and maintain an active clarinet studio of
undergraduate and graduate students. Teach undergraduate and graduate core
music history classes. Maintain visibility as a clarinet performer
including membership in the Solstice Wind Quintet, in residence at WSU.
Maintain creative and scholarly activity. Participate in student
recruiting and advising as well as other service activities and
professional organizations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate preferred, equivalent academic and
professional qualifications will be considered; demonstrated high level of
clarinet performance ability; clarinet teaching experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Successful university/college level teaching
experience; ability to achieve successful program building, studio
recruitment and retention; ability to produce significant scholarly
achievements in performance, creative activities and/or research;
involvement with scholarly activities in musicology; experience with world
music history; ability to teach woodwind techniques; strong communication
and interpersonal skills.

SCHOOL: The School of Music and Theatre Arts within the College of Liberal
Arts has 22 full-time and 3 part-time music faculty, 7 staff, 190 music
majors pursuing BM, BA and MA degrees. The School, in conjunction with the
College of Education, offers programs leading to K-12 public school
certification. The Music Program is housed in the recently renovated
Kimbrough Music Building, which includes a professional quality, digital
recording studio.

UNIVERSITY: Washington State University, a land grant institution with
enrollment of 18,000 on the Pullman campus, is located in southeastern
