Danny,

Rascher told me that he had had to flee Germany in '39. I had always wished that I had asked him why. Parts of my family had had considerable trouble and died in slave labor camps in Europe. People were on the outs with one gov't or another for remarkably capricious reasons.

and I ask

Why on earth would Rascher have been forced to leave Germany in
1939?? That is very much new news to me.
