If your mouthpiece has a close enough and long enough facing, it may even
REQUIRE such a reed. But mouthpieces with such facings are not all that
common. Also, some people use them essentially as blanks to shave down
into actual usable reeds. And I suspect that a few insecure people carry
around softer reeds in boxes marked "5" so it looks to others like they
have chops of steel. ;-)
