The Mitchel Lurie's are much, much weaker than the Vandorens. In high
school I played Lurie Premium 5 1/2's. And there are also players who
have a death grip on their mouthpieces and like the 5's just fine (I
used to).
But they will be the ones without teeth in their later years. Also
Curtis it depends a huge amount on the facing of your mouthpiece to
determine if even a 4 would be too stiff.

Can someone here tell me why they make a 5 strength clarinet reed?
Does anyone actually play such a thing?
I bought a Mitchell Lurie (or was it a Vandoren?) 5 once just as a
novelty, and it was like trying to blow through tree bark.
Really, what is the point?
