It's worse than that, George. We lived (and I still live) in a harbor
town in California of about the same size (I think?) as Bar Harbor --- I
still remember two two-pounders for $7.50, HEAVEN! --- both towns were
smaller then, I'm sure --- and my father sold used anchor chain to boat
owners who wanted to moor their boats without paying for new chain. My
Dad used to drag 100-200 ft lengths of used 1/2" proof coil behind his
truck as he drove in circles until the harbor master put an end to it,
thereby cleaning much of the seaweed and gunk off the chain.

So I wasn't kidding when I said "memories..." I suppose, if you've
handled lengths of chain, it's an inevitable joke, however.... even if
you are intoxicated.
