Reply was,
"There isn't a 'rule', but if you go too far (or too long), other
subscribers will begin to complain."

I've kept my computer keyboard off-limits during this conversation for once
(until now). I changed my e-mail address and was unsubscribed for about a
month and this Thanksgiving "debate," was one of the first topics of the
posts I began receiving through the klarinet list since resubscribing. It
is usually recommended that you take these types of conversations off-line
and continue them amongst yourselves. All the posts are stored in the
klarinet archives and as far as I can tell, they are available for all to
read. Therefore, some of you may want to think a bit longer before hitting
the send button to the list, since your posts are becoming a permanent part
of history in the making here. Other than that suggestion, I don't have
much more to say. Just make sure you label your subject lines properly so
those of us who may wish to skip non-clarinet related conversations can
easily sort through and delete the off-topic notes. Sometimes though, I
really do wonder what our ancestors are going to think about the people who
were part of the klarinet list but I suppose it depends on whether anyone
finds these odd conversations interesting enough or informative enough to
bother. Will we be taken seriously or will our notes and records be
dismissed as irrelevant drivel? I certainly can't exclude my own off-topic
posts to the list from those that may be placed in the latter category and
fortunately for my ancestors, I don't often have the time to get involved in
off-topic conversations. However, I still often wonder what impressions and
opinions will be left in the minds of those who may someday read these
posts. I can just imagine looking up, "reed preparation," for instance and
instead of or in addition to finding what I was looking for, I would
discover posts labeled, "Thanksgiving-Bah Humbug." If I discovered many
posts to the list about a certain subject, I might be tempted to do a search
on a certain poster, for example and I can only imagine the odd threads I
might find. I can see the potential news headlines now with this latest
thread. It might say something like, "Members of Klarinet List Officially
Held Accountable for Beginning World War III During Thanksgiving Debate."
For those of you who may be new to the list, I am a citizen of the USA, and
I don't care much for the "we are the greatest" delusions some of my fellow
citizens seem to have. Can you tell I didn't vote for George Bush either?
Almost half of us didn't, but the media didn't really make any special
effort to highlight that fact so I will reiterate the fact that nearly half
of all Americans do not support President Bush's policies and actions. That
is a VERY LARGE number of non-supporters folks and we all pray that the
other half of our US citizens and the rest of the world will be wise enough
not to simply ignore us!

Christy Erickson, who probably won't be writing much more than this during
the next couple of months, but who does enjoy reading posts whenever I can.
