As concisely as possible, and with an attempt to bring music back into
the discussion:

Forest, any sort of information, including a musical composition,
involves 'manipulation' by definition. If a composition doesn't
include every microtone and rhythm and dynamic and instrument and so
forth that is conceivable, then the composer has purposefully
manipulated the 'information' that he or she is presenting to you.

Presumably the composer has done this in hopes of causing emotional
responses in everyone who hears the composition. Therefore, the
composer has 'manipulated' you --- including perhaps the composer has
managed to manipulate you into paying part or all of the cost of being
manipulated.

You and Abe are beginning to use the word "manipulation" as a judgment
of the "manipulator's" goals and ethics.

Were the Star Spangled Banner and Yankee Doodle Dandy ethical
"manipulations" of the "working class"?
