The negativity is getting me down. Perhaps the answer (for all of us)
could be:

I am thankful that human beings find it in their hearts to be thankful
for the good and fortunate things that are mixed in with all the bad
stuff.

...I mean, if we want, we *can* refuse to acknowledge the good stuff,
can't we?
