Any Biologists or Botanists out there? Steve White and Ormondtoby have been
discussing 'grain' in reeds. I doubt if tree wood is a useful comparison
(though wood working techniques, like 'raising the grain' may be useful). It may
be interesting for someone with a plant morphology text book to look up bamboo
and tell us about how cane is put together. Knowing the relationships of the
different parts of the cane may shed light on what is happening when people
do the different things they do.
