Subj: RE: [kl] Yamaha flute specifications - new model numbers
Date: Tue, 16 Nov 2004 15:56:16 -0500

I'm not quite sure what Yamaha might be doing in the latest round of
re-numbering of their flute models. However, what the numbers
previously meant was that they indicated the pitch level at which the
flute was manufactured. If the third digit in the model number was a
"1" the flute was tuned to A=3D442, while a "5" as the third digit
indicated that 440 was the pitch standard to which it was built.

This information was not widely disseminated. It seems that the people
at Yamaha didn't want their prospective customers to know this.
