HTML is the language used to write web pages. E-mail programs adopted it as
an easy way to dress up e-mails with pictures, text formatting, special fonts
and so on. However, the picture might be downloaded from a server when you
read the e-mail, thus telling a spammer that your address is a real one
(whoopee!! Let's send her lots more, and tell all the other spammers). Even
worse, the HTML can contain scripts which exploit security loopholes and do
heaven knows what harm to your computer. Very wisely, Mark blocks all HTML
mails on the list, and only accepts plain text.
