Oops, I wanted to make mention that the reason many flutists don't want the
Split E is because it adds a rod, and so there are certain tricks you can't
do on the flute if you have it. There are some Split Es that have a lever
where you can turn it on or off, but most don't have these.

For a doubler, odds are they aren't going to study like it was their major
instrument. Odds are. So the Split E would be almost necessary. You don't
need to worry about doing the tricks that the Split mechanism prohibits,
probably you would not get that far advanced.
