Dan Leeson, I thought of you last night......

The Warsaw Philharmonic performed Penderecki, Chopin and Brahms last
night. The conductor was eager to do a few excerpts (Hungarian Dances,
etc) as encores.

After the third encore, the conductor made a short speech with heavy
accent and without aid of microphone. All I could understand of it was
several repetitions of the word "polka". However, people closer to the
stage than I laughed heartily.

"Omigosh," I said to myself, "Warsaw is Polish! Maybe they're going to
play a symphonic version of 'Who Stole the Kishka'. Wouldn't Dan get a
laugh out of this!"

It turned out that they played the Washington Post March (and a rousing
job they did of it). I'm guessing that the conductor was making some
sort of joke about "Maybe you think we're going to end with a polka, but
no, we're going to play an American favorite", or something like that.

Too bad. I've never actually heard "Who Stole the Kishka".
